Mike Garcia had a complete game as the Philadelphia-AL Athletics topped the
New York-AL Yankees by a score of 3 to 1 at Yankee Stadium.
Philadelphia-AL did all of it's offensive work in the 8th inning with 3 runs
using 3 hits. Bobby Avila led off and got things going when he doubled. Gil
Hodges stepped up next and he ripped a one-base hit scoring a single run.
Hank Thompson then drew a walk. After an out was recorded, Willie Jones
stepped up to the plate and he doubled driving home another two teammates.
Neither team was able to score until the 7th inning.
Garcia(13-13) got the victory, allowing 1 run for the game. The loss was
charged to Carl Erskine(12-15). He gave up 9 hits and 5 walks in 9 innings.
