Jim Devlin allowed Jimmy Wood to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as
the Chicago White Stockings defeated the Hartford Dark Blues by a score of 6
to 3 at 23rd Street Grounds.

Chicago brought 3 runs across the plate in the bottom of the 3rd inning when
they came up with 4 base hits.  Oscar Bielaski led off and started the attack
as he banged out a single, and an error was also committed.  Paddy Quinn was
next and he lined a one-base hit bringing in a run.  John Glenn then
delivered a single.  Glenn took off for second and slid in with a stolen
base.  After an out was recorded, Paul Hines stepped in and he would ground
out plating one more runner.  John Peters kept the inning going and doubled
scoring the final run of the inning.  Chicago totaled 10 hits on the
afternoon.  

Devlin(4-1) finished the game allowing 3 runs in the victory. Candy
Cummings(21-15) ended up with the loss.  Wth the win Chicago now has a record
of 24-27.  With the loss, the Hartford ballclub's record is 37-25.
