Charlie Gettig delivered 9 solid innings and Jack Doyle added four ribbies to
his seasonal total with one swing of the bat at Polo Grounds as the New York
Giants embarrassed the St. Louis Perfectos by the lopsided score of 15 to
2.
It seemed that St. Louis pitching was serving up softballs for Doyle to hit.
He electrified the crowd with a Grand Slam home run in the 1st inning and
tripled bringing in two baserunners in the 4th inning. New York lit up the
scoreboard in the 1st inning with 4 runs and the 4th inning when they had 7
runs on 7 hits. New York had 14 hits for the afternoon.
Gettig(4-10) allowed 2 runs on the game. The loss was charged to Cy
Young(23-13). New York scored big getting 15 runs off him in 8 innings.
