Right fielder Wally Westlake launched 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Boston
Red Sox won in dramatic fashion over the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of
9 to 7 at Fenway Park.

Boston came through with the game-winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning
scoring 3 runs on 2 hits. After an out was recorded, Lou Boudreau keyed the
rally when he lined a base-hit. Ted Williams came to the plate and drew a
walk. Westlake then lofted a three-run bomb giving Boston the win and
sending the home town fans into a frenzy. Even though they scored in 5
different innings, Philadelphia was not able to pull off the win.

Tommy Byrne(7-5) went 1 inning allowing 1 run for the win. Tiny Bonham(7-3)
took the loss in relief. He pitched 1 and 1/3 innings giving up 2 hits and 2
walks.

Westlake was in a good mood after the game, 'I'm just seeing and hitting the
ball real well now. I made some adjustments last week and they are paying
off. That's what this game is about. making adjustments as the season goes
along.'
