Ad Gumbert pitched a complete game as the Chicago White Stockings bested the
Indianapolis Hoosiers 17 to 16 at West Side Park.

Gumbert(16-10) was credited with the win in a less than impressive
performance.  He gave up 16 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings.  Chicago bats were
hot in the 1st inning which saw them plate 8 runs on 3 hits and the 2nd
