In a tight game it was the Brooklyn Superbas 6, the Pittsburgh Pirates 4 at
Washington Park.

Brooklyn had 2 runs cross the plate in the 6th inning. Nap Rucker opened up
the inning nicely when he drew a walk. Rucker took his lead and swiped
second. Herbie Moran then drew a walk. Claude Hendrix then tossed a pitch
that the catcher mis-handled. Casey Stengel got his turn next, but he was a
strikeout victim. George Cutshaw kept the rally going and laced a base-hit,
and an error was also committed, plating two runs. Pittsburgh had a chance
to come back in the 9th but they came up short.

Rucker(12-16) went 8 and 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs for the victory. Cy
Barger preserved the game for Rucker, recording his his 1st save.
Hendrix(21-10) was tagged with the loss. He pitched 8 innings and
surrendered 10 hits and 9 walks.

Fred Clarke was in a sour mood after the game. 'Even you guys up in the press
box know why we lost this game. We made too many mistakes.'
