The New York-AL Yankees offense put up 5 runs on the scoreboard in the 1st
inning and edged the Cincinnati Reds in 10 innings at Yankee Stadium by the
score of 10 to 9.
The score was knotted at 7 after nine innings. New York-AL came out the
victor in the 10th inning. After two outs Bob Nieman got things going when
he drew a walk. Hank Thompson stepped into the batter's box and he delivered
a one-base hit. Richie Ashburn then drew a walk to load the bases. Ralph
Kiner was up next and he drew a walk plating a run. Eddie Yost came up to
bat and drew a walk plating one more runner. Gene Woodling kept things alive
and delivered a base-hit giving New York-AL the win and sending the home town
fans into a frenzy. A wild and woolly affair, this game saw the lead change
5 times.
Jack Meyer(9-7) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning and allowing 2
runs. Don Bessent(2-3) was given the loss in relief. He gave up 2 hits and 4
walks in 2/3 of an inning.
