Ed Cushman allowed Jim Gifford to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as
the New York Metropolitans pulled out a win over the Pittsburgh Alleghenys by
a score of 6 to 5 at Polo Diamond Grounds.

The game was won by New York with a run in the 9th inning.  Chief Roseman
reached on an error.  Dave Orr came next and he laced a base-hit.  Steve
Brady then hit a single, and an error was also committed, giving New York the
win as 126 happy fans joyfully celebrated.  New York had 9 hits for the
afternoon.  

Cushman(19-11), allowing 5 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Ed
Morris(38-21) was the losing pitcher in relief.
