Oyster Burns had 2 base hits and Bob Caruthers tossed a complete game as the
Brooklyn Grooms staged a dramatic comeback over the Cleveland Spiders by a
score of 3 to 2 at Eastern Park.

Brooklyn scored the winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning plating 2
runs on 3 base hits. Burns led off the inning for Brooklyn when he lashed a
single. George Pinkney came to the plate and banged out a single. After
another out, Con Daily then hit a sacrifice fly scoring a run. Tom Kinslow
stepped in and he stroked a base-hit making Brooklyn the victor and beginning
a joyous home town celebration. Brooklyn won despite being out-hit by
Cleveland 10 hits to 5.

The victory went to Caruthers(14-16) who went the distance allowing 2 runs.
The losing pitcher was Lee Viau(15-16). He pitched 8 and 2/3 innings and
surrendered 5 hits and 3 walks.

'Now there is a lesson in perseverance for you,' Burns noted. 'It was looking
pretty dim there for a while, but we just kept plugging away and it really
paid off in spades! And it was great to see the crowd go crazy there at the
end!'
