In a dramatic ending at Municipal Stadium the streaking Cleveland Indians won
in their last at-bat beating the slumping New York Yankees by the count of 4
to 1.

Cleveland had the winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning with 3 runs
using 2 hits.  Roy Campanella led off and got things going when he drew a
walk.  After an out was recorded, Eddie Stanky came up and he banged out a
single.  Gil Hodges then lost the ball over the fence for three runs giving
Cleveland the win much to the delight of the home town crowd.  Cleveland had
only 6 hits for the afternoon.  

Gerry Staley(12-8) allowed no runs in 1 inning, and picked up the victory.
Vern Bickford(5-3) was hit with the loss.  He allowed 4 runs and 6 hits in 8
and 1/3 innings.
