Boston-AL scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning plating 2 runs on 2 hits. After two outs Johnny Groth began the rally when he ripped a base-knock. Waitkus stepped into the batter's box and he doubled which scored a run. Luis Aloma then bounced one in the dirt for a wild pitch making Boston-AL the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. The game was a scoreless duel until the 6th inning. Bill Macdonald(2-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning and allowing no runs. Aloma(5-6) took the loss in relief. 'Wow, that was fun!', Macdonald said following the game.
