WEB GEMS- Top 1st: Jackie Robinson robbed Minnie Minoso of a base hit.

Sal Maglie pitched 8 strong innings as the powerful Chicago-NL Cubs defeated
the New York-AL Yankees by a score of 3 to 0 at Wrigely Field.

Chicago-NL came up with all the runs they needed in the 4th inning with 3 runs
on 4 hits. Frank Thomas led off and started the rally when he laced a
base-hit. Jackie Robinson followed and he singled. Eddie Mathews then
slapped a single knocking in a run. Two outs later Bill Sarni stepped up to
the plate and he was walked intentionally to load the bases. Maglie stepped
into the box and ripped a one-base hit with two more runners crossing home.
After the 4th inning, neither team was able to score.

Maglie(14-5) went 8 innings allowing no runs for the win. Maglie was helped
out by Tom Gorman who recorded his 3rd save. Willard Nixon(8-8) ended up
with the loss.
