WEB GEMS- Top 2nd: Blondie Purcell robbed Jack Burdock of a base hit.

Bobby Mathews allowed John Morrill to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete
game and Joe Hornung hit 2 doubles and had 4 RBI at Riverside Park as the
Boston Red Stockings, running on all cylinders, ripped the Buffalo Bisons by
a large 18 to 7 margin.

The Buffalo fans didn't appreciate the big day Hornung had. He slapped a
single knocking in a run in the 4th inning, doubled which plated a run in the
7th inning and doubled which brought home a run in the 8th inning. Boston
provided plenty of action in the 4th inning which saw them plate 7 runs on 7
hits and the 7th inning which saw them score 4 runs on 4 hits. The Boston
offense poured it on, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.

The win was credited to Mathews(18-10) who went the whole way allowing 7 runs.
Blondie Purcell(1-2) was the loser. He was knocked around by Boston,
allowing 19 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings.
