Tom Hughes took a no-hitter into the 9th inning as the potent Washington
Nationals crushed the hapless St. Louis Browns 11 to 1.

Hughes(11-9) was virtually untouchable.  He didn't allow much, just 2 hits and
2 walks in 8 and 1/3 innings.  The right-handed Hughes had his no-hit bid
broken up by Burt Shotton who singled with nobody out in the 9th inning.
Washington had 12 hits overall, while St. Louis had 2.  

Earl Hamilton(6-21) was tagged with the loss.  He was unable to control the
Washington offense and allowed 12 hits and 3 walks in 8 and 1/3 innings.
