Billy O'Brien knocked 2 homeruns and had 6 RBI and Hank O'Day allowed John
Gaffney to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the Washington
Nationals defeated the Chicago White Stockings by a score of 14 to 6 at West
Side Park.

O'Brien provided much of the offense. He delivered a one-base hit scoring a
run in the 6th inning, blasted a two-run home run in the 7th inning and
cracked a two-run shot in the 8th inning. Washington lit up the scoreboard
in the 8th inning with 5 runs on 4 hits. The score went back-and-forth with
the lead changing 5 times.

The winning pitcher was O'Day(9-16) who allowed 6 runs for the game. George
Van Haltren(7-7) was given the loss. He allowed 4 homeruns in 9 innings of
work.

'Everything seemed to click today,' O'Brien said 'if it could only be this
easy all the time!'
