Tillie Shafer hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI as the Cincinnati Reds beat the
Washington Nationals by a score of 6 to 1.
Washington never recovered after Cincinnati took the lead in the top of the
2nd inning plating one baserunner. Nap Lajoie doubled. Fred Snodgrass
followed next and he reached on an error. Fred Blanding then fired a sharp
breaking ball that appeared to cross-up the catcher. In any event, it got by
him and was ruled a passed ball scoring the run. Cincinnati ended up with 12
hits for the game while Washington had 7.
The winning pitcher was Earl Hamilton(12-3) who allowed 1 run in 8 and 1/3
innings. The loss was charged to Blanding(8-14). He gave up 6 hits and 3
walks in 6 and 1/3 innings.
