Center fielder Cliff Mapes cracked a homer and had 2 RBI as the Philadelphia
Phillies topped the woeful Cincinnati Reds by a score of 10 to 1 at Shibe
Park.

Cincinnati fell behind quickly as the Philadelphia offense came through in the
first inning scoring 3 runners on 5 hits. That early scoring was all that Al
Benton(8-6) needed. Philadelphia had 15 hits for the game and Cincinnati had
7.

Benton got help from Joe Hatten who was credited with his 1st save. Preacher
Roe(13-11) was the losing pitcher. He surrended 3 homeruns in his 5 innings.
