Bobby Veach had 2 base hits and 3 RBI and Grover Lowdermilk reeled off a total
of 10 strikeouts as the Detroit Tigers bested the hopeless Philadelphia
Athletics 8 to 2 at Shibe Park.
Lowdermilk(13-14) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He gave up just 8
hits and 4 walks in 9 innings. The pitchers took over after the 4th inning
as neither team was able to score again.
Joe Bush(4-13) was the losing pitcher. He gave up 10 hits and 6 walks in 9
innings. Lowdermilk was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well,
it's a little odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of
cheers and a running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and
quiet. Just strange - but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the
game.'
