One run was the difference at Griffith Stadium as the Washington Nationals were certainly pleased to stop the bleeding as their 6 game losing streak was finally halted and defeated the Philadelphia-AL Athletics in 16 innings 2 to 1. Both teams were tied at 1 runs apiece after nine innings. Finally, Washington pulled the game out in the 16th inning. Dom Dimaggio drew a walk. Two outs later Murry Dickson stepped in and he drew a walk. Joe Garagiola then delivered a one-base hit making Washington victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd. For the game Washington out-hit Philadelphia-AL 13 to 8. Dickson(8-15) got credit for the victory, pitching 4 and 1/3 innings and allowing no runs. Herm Wehmeier(9-6) took the loss in relief.
