Chicago scored the winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs on 4 base hits. Walt Wilmot led off and keyed the rally when he hit a single. Schriver followed and he drew a walk. Jimmy Ryan then grounded into a double play. Ad Gumbert came up and he tripled resulting in a run. Bill Dahlen came up to bat and stroked a one-base hit driving in one more runner. Dahlen took off for second and slid in with a stolen base. Cap Anson stepped up to the plate and he was walked intentionally. Cliff Carroll then delivered a base-hit scoring the final run of the inning. Chicago ended up with 14 hits for the game while Cincinnati had 10. Tom Vickery(3-4) allowed 7 runs in 8 innings, and picked up the victory. Vickery got relief help from Bill Hutchison who gained credit for his 1st save. Billy Rhines(18-19) ended up with the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 14 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. Tom Loftus was understandably not very talkative after his team's tough loss. He quickly showered and changed and when asked about the game had a terse, yet polite response, 'Hey fellows, that game was a heart-breaker to lose. Our guys gave it their all and played well - fate just wasn't smilin' on us this afternoon' SCORESHEET: 1891 Chicago Colts at 1891 Cincinnati Reds J.Ryan-A1 A1:Si B1:Tr>3# *5*:K D1:F/7 E1:G-DP/4 63>23 1o J.Cooney-A1 A2:Force/ B2:G/3 C2:E/6 *7*:G/31 E2:Tr>3# A.Gumber-E2 36>1o b1 B.Dahlen-A1 A3:SB>12 B3:K C3:CS/24> D3:G/63 E3:Si>3# G/63 1o Si C.Anson-A1 A4:G/43 *4*:Si C4:L/4 D4:K E4:SB>12 IW>b1 C.Carrol-A1 *2*:L/6 B5:Si>12 *6*:G/3 *8*:G/23 E5:Si>2# 12 T.Burns-A1 A6:L/5 B6:Si>2# C6:L/4 D6:L/6 E6:K 13 F.Pfeffe-A1 A7:G/63 B7:SB>12 C7:Si D7:F/8 Sac/34>3# 23 T.Vicker-A1 *3*:L/5 B8:G/53 C8:SB>12 *9*:Si W.Wilmot-D8 Si>2# B.Hutchi-E7 P.Schriv-A1 A9:Tr B9:G/53 C9:SB+E/2 D9:W>12 b >13 SB>3# 1 Tr B.McPhee-A1 A1:G/63 B1:L/5 *6*:FO/2 D1:Si>12 E1:L/6 A.Latham-A1 A2:Si *4*:Si C2:W>b1 D2:PB>23 E2:Si>13 12 Do>3# 2# J.Hallig-A1 A3:SB>12 B3:SB>12 C3:SB>12 D3:SB>23 E3:W>12 b SB>23 G/4 SB+E/2>2# G/63 Tr>3# 1 3>3# F/9 B.Hollid-A1 A4:G/43 B4:F/8 C4:G/13 D4:SF+E/9 E4:K >3# b2 J.Reilly-A1 *2*:L/4 B5:F/7 *7*:Si D5:SB>23 SF/7>3# J.Keenan-A1 A6:K *5*:G/43 C6:SB>12 D6:K K G.Smith-A1 A7:Si CS/ B7:Si C7:P/3 D7:F/8 26>1o T.Mullan-A1 *3*:K B8:SB>12 C8:WP>23 *9*:G/13 W>b1 G/13 B.Rhines-A1 A9:G/53 B9:CS/25> *8*:W>b1 D9:Si J.Harrin-D9 2o 12 F/8
