Jim McGinley allowed St. Louis' manager to rest his bullpen, tossing a
complete game as the St. Louis Cardinals bested the Boston Beaneaters 9 to 3
at South End Grounds.

St. Louis came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 8th inning when
they came up with 4 runs on 4 hits. The highlight belonged to Danny Shay who
deflated the crowd as he ripped a base-hit plating two runs. Neither team
was able to score until the 6th inning.

The win went to McGinley(1-0) who allowed 3 runs in the game. Kaiser
Wilhelm(7-24) took the loss. He was unable to control the St. Louis offense
and allowed 14 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.
