Charlie Sweeney racked up an impressive total of 14 strikeouts as the
phenomenal St. Louis Maroons bested the Boston Reds 3 to 2 at Dartmouth
Grounds.
Sweeney(22-0) had a strong outing. He didn't give up much, just 9 hits and no
walks in 9 innings. St. Louis banged out 8 hits on the afternoon.
Dupee Shaw(17-9) suffered the loss. Although losing the contest, he whiffed
12 batters in 9 innings. Sweeney was humble when questioned about his
performance, 'Well, I felt pretty confident in my pitches this afternoon.
But, I had great support behind me and I just threw what was called. That
was an extremely well called game!'
