George Gore smashed 2 homeruns and Jim McCormick pitched a complete game as
the Providence Grays were badly beaten by the mighty Chicago White Stockings,
36 to 7.

Gore was a one-man wrecking crew. He doubled resulting in a run in the 3rd
inning, lost the ball over the fence for three runs in the 4th inning, banged
out a single in the 5th inning, caught a hold of a fastball for a Grand Slam
homerun in the 6th inning and stroked a one-base hit scoring a run in the 7th
inning. Chicago lit up the scoreboard in the 6th inning when they had 7 runs
on 5 hits and the 7th inning with 11 runs on 10 hits. The Chicago offense
was as consistent as it was powerful. They scored in every inning, making a
joke of the Providence pitching.

McCormick(17-8) finished the game allowing 7 runs in the victory. Charlie
Hallstrom(0-1) was tagged with the loss. He struggled with his control
issuing 6 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings.
