WEB GEMS- Bot 7th: Mike Griffin robbed Jake Virtue of an extra base hit.

Jimmy McAleer had 3 base hits and 2 RBI at League Park as the spectacular
Cleveland Spiders beat the Brooklyn Grooms by the count of 8 to 6.

Cleveland had the game winning rally in the 8th inning with 3 runs. Jesse
Burkett led off and he drew a walk. Burkett took second on a stolen base.
After an out was recorded, Ed McKean then drew a walk. One out later, Dan
Daub then threw a pitch that got away from the catcher. Patsy Tebeau stepped
into the box and was walked intentionally to load the bases. Daub then fired
a sharp breaking ball that appeared to cross-up the catcher. In any event,
it got by him and was ruled a passed ball resulting in a run. McAleer
stepped up next and he doubled adding another two runs to their total.
Brooklyn had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.

Chauncey Fisher(2-0) went 8 and 2/3 innings allowing 6 runs for the win.
Fisher got relief help from Charlie Hastings who gained credit for his 8th
save. The losing pitcher was Daub(2-9). He had trouble throwing strikes and
issued 11 walks in 8 innings.

'We just made a lot of mistakes, mostly mental,' Dave Foutz said. 'It's bad
enough when the other team beats you, but when you start beating yourselves,
that's really bad.'
