WEB GEMS- Bot 4th: Shad Barry robbed Harry Lumley of a Homerun!

Wildfire Schulte blasted a homerun as the Chicago Cubs defeated the Brooklyn
Superbas in 17 innings 7 to 5 at Washington Park.

Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings. Finally, Chicago
pulled the game out in the 17th inning. After an out was recorded, Shad
Barry initiated the scoring spurt when he ripped a base-hit. Joe Tinker
stepped up to the plate and he stroked a single. Tinker then stole second
base. Davy Jones followed next and he banged out a single which was good for
two runs. Chicago had a total of 15 hits for the game.

Ernie Groth(1-1) allowed no runs in 5 innings, and picked up the victory. Jack
Cronin(13-17) was the losing pitcher. He gave up 7 runs and 15 hits in 16
and 1/3 innings.
