Denny Lyons collected 2 extra-base hits and Ed Seward went 9 solid innings at
Jefferson St Grounds where the Philadelphia Athletics beat the struggling New
York Metropolitans by the score of 3 to 1.

Seward(28-14) was solid in the win.  He allowed only 6 hits and no walks in 9
innings.  Philadelphia finished with 10 hits in the victory.  

Al Mays(14-32) was given the loss.  It was a tough loss for him as he did not
allow an earned run in his 8 innings of work.  

'When Seward is on like that it is a tough game to play, no doubt about it,'
O.P. Caylor said. 'He always pitches well against us.'
