In a great finish the powerful Chicago Cubs came back in the top of the ninth
and held on to win over the dreadful Brooklyn Superbas by a score of 5 to 4
at Washington Park.

Chicago came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning plating 3 runs. Joe
Tinker got things going when he doubled. After an out was recorded, Del
Howard stepped in and he was hit by a pitch. Heinie Zimmerman then reached
on an error. Kaiser Wilhelm then threw a wild pitch scoring a run. Johnny
Evers came to the plate and worked the squeeze play to perfection plating one
more runner. Wilhelm then uncorked a pitch that was ruled a passed ball
scoring the final run of the inning. Chicago managed 9 hits in their
victory.

Andy Coakley(18-16) allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Wilhelm(15-19) was given the loss. 'The only way this one could
have been better', said Coakley, 'was if we had played it at home.'
