WEB GEMS- Top 7th: Harry Staley robbed Buster Burrell of a base hit.

Mike Sullivan had a complete game and right fielder Mike Tiernan had 4 hits
and 5 RBI as the New York Giants clobbered the outmatched Boston Beaneaters,
15 to 5.

Tiernan really lit it up for New York. The Boston fans let him have it for
what he did to their boys. He cracked a two-run shot in the 3rd inning,
doubled plating two runs in the 4th inning, doubled plating a run in the 6th
inning and doubled in the 8th inning. New York kept the scorekeepers busy in
the 8th inning with 5 runs on 4 hits. New York had many opportunities
throughout the game and scored in 6 separate innings.

The win was credited to Sullivan(1-0) who went the whole way allowing 5 runs.
The losing pitcher was Harry Staley(24-9). He got hammered, allowing 15 hits
and 4 walks in 9 innings.

'I just got in the box, looked for a pitch and swung,' Tiernan said. 'That's
it'
