Happy Townsend went the distance at League Park where the Philadelphia
Phillies beat the Cincinnati Reds 5 to 4.

The deciding run was scored by Philadelphia in the 8th. Ed Delahanty stroked
a base-hit. Len Swormstedt then threw a high and inside pitch that got by
the catcher; it was ruled a passed ball. Ed McFarland dug into the batters
box next, but he struck out. One out later, Bill Hallman stepped up to the
plate and he doubled scoring the run. Cincinnati had a chance in the 9th but
they came up short.

The win was credited to Townsend(6-7) who went the whole way allowing 4 runs.
Swormstedt(0-2) was the losing pitcher. 'I had a little blister on my index
finger before the game, but I thought it was nothing.' Townsend said. 'I was
lucky I got a win because I couldn't put the ball where I wanted it.'
