Jim Hughey had an impressive outing and Lave Cross had 2 base hits and 3 RBI
at League Park as the St. Louis Browns beat the Cincinnati Reds by the count
of 9 to 1.

St. Louis started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of
the first plating an isolated run. Tommy Dowd reached on an error. Jake
Stenzel stepped up next and he reached on an error. Cross then hit a
sacrifice fly scoring the run. St. Louis had 15 hits for the afternoon.

Hughey(13-16) finished the game allowing 1 run in the victory. Ted
Breitenstein(15-17) was given the loss. He was knocked around by St. Louis,
allowing 14 hits and 4 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.

When questioned about his counterpart after the game, Breitenstein was lavish
in his praise, 'It was obvious very early on that we were going to be in for
a long night. Hughey brought his 'A' game with him - he had good stuff and
was able to spot it perfectly. He probably only made one or two bad pitches
the entire game!
