Dan Griner(10-5) thrilled the fans at Robison Field as he crafted a no-hit
masterpiece against the reeling Chicago Cubs. The incredible St. Louis
Cardinals won by a final score of 1 to 0.
Griner provided a brilliant, unforgettable performance for the hometown crowd
at Robison Field day. He walked 4 Chicago batters. The St. Louis players
and coaches started to leave Griner alone with his thoughts after the game
reached the 7th inning. By the time the 9th inning rolled around, you could
hear a pin drop every time he went to his wind-up - and an explosion after
every out. St. Louis had only 5 hits for the afternoon.
George McConnell(0-1) was the loser. He gave up 5 hits and 3 walks in 7
innings. 'Griner was simply incredible' losing pitcher McConnell said. 'I
hate to admit this but I'd pay to watch a man pitch like that'
