History was made in New York as Tom Hughes(2-1) tossed a no-hitter and the New
York Highlanders defeated the Boston Americans by the score of 10 to 0.
The partisan crowd cheered every Boston out from the 7th inning on. He
surrendered no walks and could have tossed a perfect game if it were not for
the fielding error. The tension started to build around the 6th inning. By
the 9th inning the crowd was electrified. Hughes struckout 10 Boston
batters. New York managed 11 hits in their victory.
Ed Barry(0-1) was given the loss. New York knocked him around a bit, as he
gave up 10 runs in 8 innings. When asked how his stuff was out there, Hughes
looked a bit incredulous (as did this reporter) and replied 'A bit better
than average, I'd have to say'
