2,779 fans were treated to a fine game at Recreation Park as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end.  The seemingly unstoppable Boston
Beaneaters won by the slimmest of margins, 10 to 9.

The score was tied at 9 after nine.  Boston came out the victor in the 10th
inning.  Hardy Richardson reached on an error.  Jim Hart then called for a
steal which was successful.  King Kelly then worked the squeeze play to
perfection scoring the run.  Pittsburgh out-hit Boston 16 to 8, but Boston
ended up with more runs.  

Kid Madden(10-10) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the win. The losing
pitcher was Pud Galvin(23-15).  He surrendered 10 runs and 8 hits in 10
innings.
