Sam Thompson smashed 2 homeruns and had 6 RBI as the Philadelphia Quakers
ballclub embarrassed the Chicago White Stockings by the count of 21 to
7.

Thompson had a great day at the plate. He doubled in the 1st inning, doubled
plating a run in the 3rd inning, smacked a single in the 4th inning, doubled
bringing in a run in the 7th inning, clubbed a two-run home run in the 8th
inning and lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in the 9th
inning. Philadelphia bats were very productive in the 3rd inning which saw
them score 5 runs on 5 hits, the 7th inning scoring 4 runs and the 8th inning
which saw them plate 4 runs on 5 hits. Philadelphia kept the pressure on
throughout the contest as they scored in 6 different innings.

The win went to Ben Sanders(17-17) who allowed 6 runs in 8 innings. Bill
Hutchison(18-13) was hit with the loss. He was touched for 22 hits and 3
walks in 9 innings.

'I was in my hotel room the other night, working on my swing and made some
adjustments,' Thompson said. 'I'm always working on it. If they are getting
you out certain ways, you've got to make changes.'
