Bill Hoffer was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game and Patsy Donovan had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Pittsburg
Pirates defeated the Cleveland Spiders 6 to 5 at Exposition Park.

Pittsburg erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 8th inning
plating 2 runs on 2 base hits.  Bones Ely started the inning off right when
he slapped a one-base hit, and an error was also committed.  After another
out, Heinie Smith dug into the batters box next, but he struck out.  Hoffer
then was hit by a pitch.  Jack Harper then uncorked a wild pitch.  Donovan
stepped into the box and tripled knocking home two runners.  Pittsburg had 9
hits for the afternoon.  

The victory went to Hoffer(10-11) who went the distance allowing 5 runs.
Harper(1-4) ended up with the loss.  He pitched 8 innings and surrendered 9
hits and 1 walk.
