John Clarkson delivered 9 solid innings and Abner Dalrymple had 2 base hits as
the Chicago White Stockings topped the ice-cold Boston Beaneaters by a score
of 7 to 1 at South End Grounds.

Boston never recovered after Chicago took the lead in the 2nd inning when they
scored 2 runs on 2 hits. The early run support proved sufficient for
Clarkson(37-15) and Chicago. That was all the run support Clarkson required.
Chicago had 12 hits for the afternoon.

Bill Stemmyer(23-16) absorbed the loss. He served up 3 gopher balls in 9
innings. 'I thought it was my best performance in a long time,' said
Clarkson. 'I had good command early in the game. I had my control and
composure and everything went well.'
