John Clarkson pitched a complete game as the spectacular Chicago White
Stockings beat the league door-mat Philadelphia Quakers by a score of 8 to
2.

In the 5th inning Chicago went on top for good when they scored 2 runs on 2
hits.  The critical plate appearance was by King Kelly who made the crowd
come alive when he laced a one-base hit scoring two baserunners.  Chicago
totaled 10 hits on the afternoon.  

Clarkson(9-4) allowed 2 runs on the game. Charlie Ferguson(17-29) suffered the
loss.  He gave up 10 hits and 7 walks in 8 innings.
