Al Spalding had a complete game and George Wright had 4 hits and 2 RBI at
Newington Park where the Boston Red Stockings beat the Baltimore Canaries by
the score of 18 to 11.

Baltimore was unable to climb back into it after Boston went ahead for good in
the top of the 4th inning scoring 2 runs using 2 hits.  After an out was
recorded, Spalding began the rally when he reached on an error.  One out
later, Cal McVey came to bat and stroked a single plating a run.  McVey took
second on the throw.  Jack Manning then uncorked a pitch that was ruled a
passed ball.  Andy Leonard followed and he ripped a base-hit scoring the
final run of the inning.  Boston bats were very productive in the 2nd inning
plating 4 runs and the 5th inning when they had 5 runs on 6 hits.  Boston had
many opportunities throughout the game and scored in 6 separate innings.

Spalding(35-19) lasted until the end allowing 11 runs for the win.
Manning(13-7) took the loss.  Boston scored big getting 18 runs off him in 9
innings.
