WEB GEMS- Bot 5th: Aleck Smith blocked the plate, saving a run!

One run was the difference at Washington Park as the seemingly unstoppable
Baltimore Orioles defeated the Brooklyn Superbas in 11 innings 10 to 9.

The score was tied at 9 after nine. Baltimore came out on top in the 11th
inning. After an out was recorded, Charlie Harris slapped a base-hit. John
McGraw then called for a steal which was successful. Steve Brodie then
worked the squeeze play to perfection scoring the run. The score went
back-and-forth with the lead changing 6 times.

Joe McGinnity(23-18) went 3 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Doc
McJames(19-13) suffered the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners
giving up 16 hits and 2 walks in 11 innings.
